Cranial Creativity Clash

Free verses –
the humble, naked love children of
permission and freedom –
get to happily explore
huge fields of ideas and
vast oceans of expression.
If hired, they doodle, usually
creating colourful works of art.

Rhythm and rhyme –
the clever, smartly-dressed spawn of
perfection and control –
are doomed to struggle in
swamps of semantics and
jails of grammar.
On the job, they labour, sometimes
producing only white pages.

Rarely kissing cousins, they more often
square off and clash in
the minds of neurotic poets,
trying to strangle each other –
until finally, they shake hands and
the ink starts to flow.
